Career Growth: Bloom Where You Are Planted
Bloom Where You Are Planted….until you are transplanted
Career growth. Like any other growth, careers have periods of fast development as well as slow stages. At some point, things can seem to slow down so much you feel like you are at a decline. I am a career counselor so I spend a lot of time encouraging clients seeking career help but this phrase also is meaningful to me on a personal level. I am at the age where many of my friends have quickly made it up to middle management type roles but are now starting to feel stagnant as they wait for the next opportunity. Most are growing where they are planted without knowing it and stay positive as they wait for the next opportunity. But what happens when we are intentional about taking charge of our own professional growth?
Give That Moment Everything
The first time I heard the bloom phrase was in a church group. I loved it. Trevor, a college student with a spiritual devotion beyond his years, was speaking about his own journey. Throughout his story, he talked about not always being exactly where he wanted to be but he finally realized that he was always exactly where God wanted him to be. He went to state his philosophy was to bloom where he was planted until he was transplanted. Trevor believed that God puts you in a place for a reason. If we believe in God’s will, we believe we are here for a purpose. But a purpose can only be served if you give that moment everything you have for the time you are in it…until you are transplanted.
You Have More Power Than You Realize
Even if you aren’t religious, you have to agree being in charge of your own growth in times of few opportunities can’t be a bad idea. Bloom where you are planted. Encouraging words for when you feel like you are stuck. It’s going to happen to all of us at some point. Record growth in anything in life will slow so even the ambitious will hit a point where things stop for a moment. It is in that moment that you have to decide what you are going to do. Are you going to be powerless and just give up? If so, growth will never return. Or are you going to take control over what you have and make the most of every opportunity? Are you going to fulfill your purpose while in that moment? You have more power than you realize.
A Simple Phrase To Remember
The next big job opportunity may be months to years away. So create your own opportunities while you are waiting for the next challenge to arrive. Bloom where you are planted. A simple phrase to help you remember to keep growing and shining right where you are. You always have choices. In professional growth, you can just do nothing and wait or do everything you can to be the best you can be in the moment. If you do the latter, when the next opportunity comes, you will be more prepared, knowledgeable and capable of taking on the new adventure.
Be The Flower That Stands Out
Just like flowers don’t sprout before your eyes, our lives take time to develop too. If our skills are nurtured in those mundane times, just like plants, the morning will come where it appears we bloomed over night. But just as the gardener knows, it took a lot of thought and work to make that flower grow. Bloom where you are planted. Be the flower that stands out until the moment comes when you are transplanted.
